I spent more than a decade of my life loathing my body, hating what I saw in the mirror.

Despite months in and out of treatment programs that never got to the root of why I didn't feel I could accept myself the way I was.

Until I realized...

 My struggle with body image started when I got pregnant at age 15...

I gained 40lbs in 7 months.


My classmates quit talking to me. My dad cried for 3 months and my partner was terrified I’d waddle forever.


So I lost 60lbs after I gave birth and everyone told me how amazing I looked. I hung onto “skinny” because that was easier than facing “slut” for having a teen pregnancy.

I got so stressed trying to be someone people wouldn’t judge that I quit eating altogether.

Eventually I started getting better, but then I was sexually assaulted.

And that’s when it got really bad

 

For 20 years after that I was in and out of the hospital struggling to answer the question...

How do you process and control trauma?

 

You don’t, you control food.

Being in the hospital for treatment was actually WORSE because you learn all these other ways to control food like:

 

Don’t eat.
You’ll need to eat eventually.

Eat only “safe foods” like cottage cheese.
Sets you up to binge.

Binge.
Sets you up to be overweight.

Purge.
People will hear you and find out.

Laxatives.
Feel like you’re going to die.

Exercise.
(I even brought weights on the plane).
Exhausting, rules your life and you feel like you’re a slave to the gym.

Restrict.
You end up binging again.

I want more for you. 

I WANT TO HELP END THE TRAGEDY OF WOMEN REJECTING THEMSELVES.

I WANT TO GIVE THEM THE KEYS TO STOP PUSHING AWAY THE LOVE AND DESIRE THEY WANT TO FEEL FROM A CONSCIOUS MAN.

I was a highly sensitive woman.

I spent 4 months in the hospital, doing 40 hours a week of therapy and felt like such a loser when I’d come home and relapse.

How would SHE move through space?

I felt stuck. This struggle was my punishment.


All because I didn’t know how or have a safe space to process my emotions.
